The Adverb

Adverb

"An Adverb is a word that changes the meaning of a verb, an Adjective or an Adverb."

Example:

  • Ahmed runs quickly.
  • This is a very sweet orange.
  • Hifza reads quite clearly.

👉 "quickly" shows this. How Ahmed runs. Thus "quickly" adds meaning to the verb "runs".

👉 " very" in the second sentence shows this. How much orange(to which degree is sweet) And "very" also add meaning to the adjective sweet.

👉 "quite" which is an adverb in itself shows that Hifza reads clearly. Thus the related verb "quite" adds itself to the meaning of another related verb "clearly".

The adverbs add or edit the adverbs in the following sentences.

  • He was sitting close beside me.
  • She was dressed all in white.
  • Have you read all through this book?

If the Adverb is applied at the beginning of a sentence. So it edits the whole sentence instead of just editing the specific word.

Example:

  • Unfortunately, no one was present here.
  • Probably he is mistaken.
  • Evidently, the figures are incorrect.
